I look out of the window and I see
Clear, blue skies
Vibrant colours of autumn blazing
in the morning sun
Crisp frost bringing out the beauty
of our garden.
And yet I know
thick, dark clouds cover our earth
blotting out the warmth of the sun.
Devastation and despair wreak havoc
across the nations.
And where is God?
God has the habit of being in the brokeness as He has always been. Never once did he ever totally abandon this earth, its people until Christ called out, my God why have you forsaken me? This is when He was even more in the thick of it in the form as a human, bearing the sin and brokeness of the world.
The fact that He is not only Creator but also Sustainer, still stuns me, as He is there, mopping up our messes, restraining from anger in divine grace. His nature will always be that He will be where He is invited.
God come by your grace again to open hearts, renewing, sustaining, healing and filling the whole earth with your glory!
To quote an archbishop Rowan Williams when asked that question. His answer was that God is where God has always been. In the thick of it. Needless to say that was not the exact words but the gist.
